Game Project Character Design Prototype

Recently, I've been creating a game concept in Unity. I've been meaning to create something that draws inspiration from various sources, namely Ori And The Blind Forest, Hollow Knight and Journey, to name a few.

The goal here was to create a mysterious masked character that could serve as the game's protagonist. A traveler, seeking to explore ancient places and ruins of the past. I tend to work a lot with lineart, but to start out the design I settled on creating silhouettes first. The reason why I chose to do it this way was to try and force myself to not focus so much on creating something with detail, but to design loosely. To see the overall shape of the character before filling in the blacks.

I knew that I wanted the character to have an identifiable mask and a cloak. Their hands shouldn't be visible from underneath the cloak. In an attempt to keep the mystery alive, I wanted to make it so that the character wasn't immediately identifiable as being anything other than just a masked traveler.

I settled on something I was happy with and then decided to start filling in the details with some lineart and design elements to bring the character together. I even tried to make a run cycle just to see what the overall character could look like moving through space. It's still unpolished, as I'd never animated a character before. But I was happy with the overall result. I'll seek to push this project further and improve on the design.
